Ashnil Samburu is strategically set in a river bank south of Ewaso Nyiro River in Buffalo Springs Game Reserve providing unrivalled access to excellent game viewing. Buffalo Springs Game Reserve takes its name from an oasis of crystal clear water at the western end of the reserve. It is separated from Samburu National Reserve by Ewaso Nyiro River and is less hilly, dense and very attractive. Later in the afternoon, proceed for a game drive in the expansive Samburu Game Reserve to view a huge variety of wildlife species found in this magnificent park. An often overlooked gem, Buffalo Springs and Samburu offers a truly unique safari experience. Not only is the park home to iconic animals such as elephants, lions, and leopards, but it's also home to the Samburu Special Five, a quintet of five animals found nowhere else in Kenya namely, Beisa Oryx, Reticulated Giraffe, Somali Ostrich, long-necked Gerenuk and Grevy's Zebra.
Whole day in Samburu Game Reserve with game drives. Samburu plays host to large herds of elephants, drawn by the promise of water in Ewaso Nyiro River to quench their thirst. Other unique wildlife specifies are also very common sightings in this part of the wilderness. In the dry season, elephants use their tusks to dig deep into the dry river beds of Ewaso Nyiro River unearthing precious water. This water draws wildlife in great numbers to its banks, creating a green oasis and becomes a great point of concentration and interest to both visitors and wildlife. Ewaso Nyiro forms the lifeline of this great reserve and most animals cannot keep away from it. Crocodile and hippo share the river with elephants which bathe and frolic in the muddy brown waters during the heat of the day before returning later to browse on the lush vegetation of the riverine forest. The area is home to the Samburu tribe, pastoral relatives of the Maasai. The landscape is rugged and dramatic against a backdrop of volcanic mountains, gaunt hills and withered scrub trees punctuate the sparse and dry terrain.
