Gorilla trekking experience is the highlight of travelling to Rwanda or Uganda on safari. Our “Mountain Gorilla Trek” will enable you to get close up and personal with the elusive mountain gorilla in Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable Forest where these majestic creatures live in the dense vegetation. The trekking expedition is always led by professionally trained and experienced guides and will enable you to see this wonder of nature; while staying in luxurious accommodation located in the foothills of dormant volcanic Virunga Mountain Range and its staggering views.

Upon arrival in Rwanda, you will be met at Kigali International Airport by your Safari Guide and assisted with arrival formalities before boarding your 4x4 safari vehicle. Embark on City Tour of Kigali that will include a visit to the Genocide Museum. After lunch depart for The Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (BINP) in southwestern Uganda. The park which is part of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is a sanctuary for over 400 Bwindi gorillas, half of the world's population of the endangered mountain gorillas. 14 habituated mountain gorilla groups are open to tourism under strict management of Uganda Wildlife Authority. This journey takes about 4 hours arriving Mutanda Lake Resort late afternoon. Mutanda Lake Resort is perched on a peninsula with stunning views of the Virunga Mountain Range. Lake Mutanda is a small freshwater lake in southwestern Uganda in the foothills of the Virunga Mountain Range. The environment on the islands within the lake and the surrounding countryside includes lakeside forests and wetland habitats that provide a haven for the endangered Mountain Gorillas.
After early breakfast in the resort, your guide will transfer you to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Park Gate for a trekking briefing session. Here, you will be lectured on the ‘Dos’ and ‘Don'ts of gorilla trekking and how you should behave while with the gorillas within the forest. The Gorilla trek can last between 30 minutes to 7 hours depending on the location of mountain gorilla family on that particular day. The hike through the forest is challenging and tough but within reach for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness. It requires navigating uphill and downhill through thick tangles of vines, thorns and roots. The hiking trails can be slippery when it rains therefore a pair of waterproof hiking boots is required as well as long trousers and shirts. Upon finding the gorillas, you will be allowed to spend one hour with them while observing their behaviour and taking photographs. Gorilla trekking experience is unforgettable, magical and life-changing worth every penny despite the high costs and discomfort. Thereafter, head back to the Park Headquarters to collect your certificate before returning to Mutanda Lake Resort. This afternoon can take boat trip to the islands of Kyangushu and Mutanda to meet local villagers and enjoy some bit of walking and birdwatching.
Breakfast. Rest of the morning at leisure to enjoy the best volcano views and mountain magic from your wooden cottage. Lake Mutanda Resort commands panoramic views of three volcanoes within the Virunga range namely Mount Muhabura, Mount Sabinyo and Mount Gahinga. It is set among trees overlooking the lake providing breathtaking scenery and uninterrupted views. Each cottage is perched on a platform and has a private verandah. Enjoy delicious meals from the resort’s restaurant and sundowners on the main verandah. Thereafter, drive back to Kigali arriving in the afternoon. You will be dropped at Kigali International Airport on time for your departure flight.
