Day 1

Nairobi

Meet and Greet upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport_JKIA in Nairobi and transferred to Tamarind Tree Hotel for check in and refreshments. This afternoon, drive to St Austin’s Catholic Church, the oldest and first Catholic Church to be established in Kenya for evening Mass. St. Austin's Church in Lavington was founded by a small group of Holy Ghost Fathers and Brothers (The Spiritans) in 1899. They were the first Catholic missionaries in East Africa arriving in Zanzibar in 1860 and quickly moving to the mainland Tanzania and to Kenya thereafter. Overnight at Tamarind Tree Hotel which is a new and stylish hotel strategically located south west of Nairobi within the spacious Carnivore grounds and its iconic Carnivore Restaurant next to Nairobi National Park. In addition to its urban core, Nairobi boasts of Nairobi National Park which is a large game reserve known for breeding endangered black rhinos and home to giraffes, zebras and lions. The hotel rooms are superbly appointed, very spacious and offer the best in comfort and convenience. Guest facilities here include food and beverage outlets serving delicious food and drinks.

Day 2

Nairobi

Breakfast and proceed on a guided tour of the city of Nairobi that will include a visit of The Holy Family Basilica the biggest Catholic Church in Kenya, the nearby Catholic Parochial Primary School and The Catholic Bookshop founded and managed by The Congregation of The Daughters of Saint Paul. The Basilica of the Holy Family is a Cathedral dedicated to the Holy Family located in the centre of Nairobi and is the seat of the Archdiocese of Nairobi. Enjoy lunch at Tamambo Karen Blixen Restaurant and thereafter visit Karen Blixen Museum, Kazuri Beads and Giraffe Centre for afternoon giraffe feeding. Evening Mass will be at Apostles of Jesus Shrine in Karen who were the first religious missionary order of priests and brothers in Africa. In this beautiful shine, just recently the Replica of the Biblical “Ark of the Covenant” was installed. The Ark is a wooden chest clad with gold containing the two stone tablets of the Ten Commandments as given to Moses by God. This beautiful shrine is today the only “home” in Africa for “The Ark of the Covenant” .

Day 3

Nairobi/Komarok Shrine/The Aberdares

Your pilgrimage journey starts this morning as you depart Nairobi and head off to Komarock Sacred Shrine. Since time immemorial, Komarock because of its mysteries, miracles and magic was the natural place of worship, prayer and sacrifice where local people would ask God for protection, health, wealth and rain. Komarock Shrine is home to very powerful forces that stopped Government engineers from constructing a new road. Before the Catholic Church was established here, local people used to see an image of a woman apparently consoling a young man. And according to the story, these looked like white people. To the white Catholic priest, this was a very familiar story. In Europe, where such sightings were witnessed, holy shrines were constructed. Proceed on with your journey to the "white highlands' arriving late afternoon at The Ark Forest Lodge for overnight game viewing. The Ark Forest Lodge is set on an ancient elephant migratory route between The Aberdares and Mount Kenya and is strategically located right in front of a natural watering hole and salt lick.

Day 4

The Aberdares/Samburu Game Rserve

Breakfast at The Ark and drive to Our Lady of Consolata Catholic Cathedral in Nyeri where the remains of Blessed Sister Irene Stefano are interred. Blessed Sister Irene was a Consolata Missionaries Italian nun popularly known as “The Mother of Mercy” was recently put on the road to Sainthood by Pope Francis during the first beatification ceremony ever in Africa. The extraordinary miracle attributed to her intervention happened at a local church in Napepe, Mozambique where catechists from different parishes who were isolated together with other people had sought refuge in the church in 1989, prayed through Sister Irene and baptismal water increased, allowing them to use it for drinking and sustained the crowd for four days until help arrived. Make a brief visit to her monument and thereafter depart for Samburu National Reserve in the Northern Frontier District. Drive past Isiolo the headquarters of the Catholic Apostolic Vicariate of Isiolo which has a population of 35,000 Catholic faithful of mixed nomadic tribes of Borana, Somali, Rendille and Meru. After lunch at Samburu Simba Lodge, enjoy afternoon game drive to view wildlife found in this semi-arid part of Kenya.

Day 5

Samburu Game Reserve

Whole day in Samburu with game drives. Samburu Game Reserve is situated in the hot and arid fringes of Kenya’s vast Northern Frontier District. The area is home to the Samburu tribe, pastoral relatives of the Maasai. The landscape is rugged and dramatic – against a backdrop of volcanic mountains, gaunt hills and withered scrub trees punctuate the sparse and dry terrain. The Ewaso Nyiro River, lifeline of this area, runs along the southern boundary dividing Samburu from Buffalo Springs Reserve. Crocodile and hippo share the river with the many small herds of elephant which bathe and frolic in the muddy brown waters during the heat of the day before returning later to browse on the lush vegetation of the riverine forest. This afternoon make a brief visit to Archers Post Catholic Mission. Here you will get to hear how the local Catholic priests teach the gospel to an illiterate and nomadic population who move from one area to another in search of new grazing lands for their livestock and the challenges that they face every day as they move from one area to another erecting temporary makeshift churches.

Day 6

Samburu/Great Rift Valley/Lake Nakuru

Breakfast and drive into the Great Rift Valley arriving for lunch at Flamingo Hill Camp which is nestled between the “honeymoon hills” and set in beautifully landscaped grounds with natural foliage and variety of indigenous African plants and flowers. The camp's surroundings comprise of wide grassy plain fringed with forests and rolling hills and in the distance, the flamingo-lined shores of Lake Nakuru. Flamingo Hill boats of providing superb tented accommodation and very personalized guest service. Enjoy afternoon game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park which is world famous for its enormous flocks of flamingo and over 400 species of birds. Lake Nakuru is a soda lake on the floor of the Rift Valley and at times the flamingos number in millions which is a very spectacular sight. They are so numerous that from a distance the lake appears to be ringed in pink. The lake has recently earned reputation as an important haven for endangered species particularly the Rothschild giraffe, and the Black and White rhino. Tree-climbing lions, water-buck, buffalo and baboons are all residents here.

Day 7

Marian National Shine

Early morning game drive. After breakfast, with packed lunch drive to Subukia Valley for whole day visit to The National Marian Shrine of Kenya. The shrine is located under the hilly landscape overlooking the fertile Subukia Valley. Its commonly known as “Village of Mary Mother of God” and stands on the Equator at the meeting point of the Northern and Southern hemispheres. Catholic Church in Kenya set it up and blessed “Mji Wa Maria” designating it as a holy place in honour of Virgin Mary. There is a chapel with a statue of Mary holding baby Jesus and spring water that has proved to have miracle cures. The spring started flowing in December 1991 on the eve of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary and has since never dried up. The Marian Shrine is the biggest Catholic shrine in Kenya and attracts thousands of pilgrims from all over the world every year. Buried at the foot of the cross is a piece of rock from the Grotto at Lourdes in France, a stone from River Jordan in Israel and another from the Marian Shrine at Medjugorje in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Late in the afternoon drive back to Flamingo Hill Camp arriving on time for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8

Lake Nakuru/Maasai Mara

Breakfast and enjoy gorgeous views of the Great Rift Valley as you drive to Maasai Mara Game Reserve arriving for lunch at Basecamp Mara which overlooks a dramatic bend on the banks of the Talek a tributary of the Mara River, gently blending into the surrounding wilderness. The Masai Mara National Reserve is just across the river and home to the highest density of wildlife in the world, the "Big 5" and the 7th wonder of the world, The Great wildebeest migration from Serengeti Plains in Tanzania into the Mara.

After lunch its time for afternoon game drive in the Mara which is a magnificent landscape of open plains bisected by the Mara River and its tributaries and punctuated by marshes and forests. Maasai Mara offers wildlife in such variety and abundance that it is difficult to believe. Over 450 species of animals have been recorded here. You will easily see lions, rhinos, hippos, crocodiles, giraffe, wildebeests, zebras, buffalo, warthogs, hyenas, jackals, wild dogs, buffalo, leopard, many kinds of antelopes and elephant.

Day 9

Maasai Mara Game Reserve

Whole day in Maasai Mara with game drives. Maasai Mara is one of the most popular safari destinations in Kenya. The reserve is located in the Great Rift Valley in primarily open grassland and is regarded as the jewel of Kenya’s wildlife viewing areas. The annual wildebeest’s migration alone involves over 1.5 million animals arriving in July and departing in November. Nowhere in Africa is wildlife more abundant and it's for this reason visitors here hardly misses to see all the "Big 5" : Buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion, and rhino. Enjoy whole day game drive in the Mara where perhaps the most spectacular event of the natural world takes place. This is the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra from the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to Maasai Mara in Kenya in search of water and pasture. Following on their heels are the predators of the savannah, lion, cheetah, wild dog, jackal, hyena and vultures. On the way back to the camp make a brief visit to Sekenani Catholic Church and an authentic Maasai homestead and possibly take part in a traditional dance.

Day 10

Maasai Mara/Nairobi/Departure

Enjoy early morning game drive before breakfast. Drive back to Nairobi arriving for lunch at Talisman Restaurant in Karen. Thereafter proceed to The Resurrection Garden also in Karen for an afternoon visit. This garden offers a perfect spiritual atmosphere for worship, meditation and prayer following steps of Jesus Christ before crucifixion. There is a chapel for prayer and meditation and many biblical verses along the walkways. Holy Mass will be celebrated at The Resurrection Garden Chapel before heading to The Carnivore Restaurant for farewell dinner. Located in the outskirts of Nairobi next to Uhuru (Independence) Gardens on Langata Road this is world famous restaurant is well known as the ultimate 'Beast of a Feast', a meat lovers den where a vast selection of succulent meats are charcoal grilled and carved at your table. After a very delightful dinner experience, you will be transferred to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for your departure flight.
